Over the course of the last year, artist Bartholomew Beal has had a residency in Derbyshire funded by the University of Derby and Derbyshire Community Foundation.
The residency was set up with the help of the estate of the late Jonathan Vickers with the aim to bring a rising painter to Derbyshire to produce a new body of work inspired by the county’s landscape, heritage and people.
After hearing the story of ‘Alice in the Bacon Box’ and hearing Lucy’s song of the same name, Bartholomew contacted Lucy to find out more about the story.
They ended up in long conversations about the characters of Derbyshire’s past and Alice Grace (Alice in the Bacon Box) became a reoccurring theme throughout the collection.
The collection is available to view from 7th September 2013 to 10th November 2013 at Derby Museum and Art Gallery with free entry.
